We respect the Code of Ethics and Guidelines for Practice of the American Institute of Conservation like the canon of our profession and is fundamental in our every day work.
Examination, the most basic of treatments:
If items are present at our studio for the purpose of conservation, restoration or simply for evaluation of authenticity they must be opened/unframed, photographed and inspected. Numerous and different tests may be performed by us prior to the issuance of an estimate, written or not. Magnifiers and ultraviolet lamps are among the tools that may be used during the examination. The solubility of all media must be tested prior to water or solvent treatment.
Examination costs could be deducted from the cost of an estimate if previously agreed.
There is a fee charged for examination of works of art but no charge for verbal estimates or informal estimates discussed over email, see Services page for more information on charges corresponding to estimates elaborated for Insurance purposes.
